Joan D. Braddock

Joan Drue Speer Braddock, age 79, of Delta, formerly of Temperance, MI, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. She was born on February 24, 1936 to Kenneth and Anna (Kolakowski) Speer in Toledo. Joan married Merlin V. "Curly" Braddock on June 24, 1953 who was her best friend for 51 years before his passing in 2004. She was also active with her husband in the Toledo Golden Gloves for many years as a ringside judge and treasurer. Joan was presented The Minute Man Award from the state of Michigan for community involvement as well. She was also mother of the year for over 58 years. Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Speer and brother, Kenneth Speer. Joan is survived by her loving children, Lynne (Allen) Gramlich, of Maybee, MI, Lee Braddock, of Ft. Meyers, FL, Lori (Roger) Viola, of Delta, OH, Leslie (Tricia) Braddock, of Wyoming, MI and Lissa Braddock-McEvoy, of Temple Terrace, FL; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Renner-Braddock; brother, John Speer; and many dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI 48182 with visitation one hour prior in church. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
