Jimmie Warren, age 67, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Sunday morning, August 5, 2018. He was born on April 11, 1951 to Sylvester Warren and Martha Townsend in Greenville, Mississippi. Jimmie was a graduate of Marshall High School in Chicago, IL and later graduated from DePaul University. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.
For many years, he worked for DePaul University in their security department. He retired from the University and to keep himself busy, he became a police officer for the Bellwood Police Department (a suburb of Chicago), and he also retired from there too! Although he retired, Jimmie never stopped working. He enjoyed working around his properties, building and rehabbing, and he took great pride in all his projects he accomplished.
Jimmie had many, many instruments - piano, guitars, saxophone, bongos, and keyboards and prided himself on trying to be a self-taught musician. He was also a positive influence to the young men in the family and he enjoyed teaching and spending time with many of them. Jimmie's love of music and his love of family were immeasurable.
Jimmie loved the Lord and began searching for a church home. Eventually he was led to the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo, OH under the leadership of Pastor James H. Willis Sr.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sylvester "Joe" Warren, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Gloria Jackson (Cleve Jackson - deceased) and Marvin Townsend, both of Chicago, IL; nephew, Jamark Jackson; great-nieces, Diamond, Jasmine and Aiyana; great-great-niece, Alana; great-great-nephew, Royal; and a host of special cousins, his dear friends and family in Chicago, IL and his St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church family.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10:00am - 11:00am at St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church, 1502 N. Detroit Ave., Toledo, OH 43607; with Home Going Service beginning at 11:00am; Senior Pastor Rev. James H. Willis, Sr. officiating; Interment will follow at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
