Jimmie Barker, age 84, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Heartland of Oregon. He was born on November 5, 1928 to Charles and Laverne (Frische) Barker in Toledo. Jimmie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country proudly, post WWII in the Japanese Occupation. He married Iris Thelma Skiver in 1949. Jimmie retired from Toledo Terminal Railroad in 1987 after many years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially of fishing. Jimmie will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Barker; sons, Gary, Guy and William Barker; and brothers, Edward and Charles "Bud" Barker. Jimmie is survived by his son, Kenneth (Donna) Barker; daughters, Vicky (Roy) Smith and Cathy Casper; sisters, Wanda "Jane" (Charles) Ruetz, Dorothy Mae Harris and Sally (Ted) Vinal; brother, Jerry (Pat) Barker; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow later in Toledo Memorial Park.
