Jesse Salvador Cortez, age 90, a longtime resident of Point Place, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. He was born June 27, 1930 in Deerfeld Township, Michigan to Reynado and Petra (Salazar) Cortez. Jesse was a US Army Veteran serving his country proudly during the Korean War. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the military, he returned to Toledo and began his working career at Schoen's Construction, then Ohio Specialty for several years. Jesse then went on to become a Business Owner operating a local tavern called "The Old Timer's" and then "Jesse's Carryout" retiring after many years.
During his younger years, Jesse and his wife Delores enjoyed traveling all over the country including numerous trips to Las Vegas. They also spent many wonderful times at their cottage fishing. Jesse was a member of VFW 606, the Arrow Club and the Latino's Club.
He was a man of strong faith and dedicated to 5 generations of family. Being one of nine children he always enjoyed many large family celebrations filled with food, music and lots of laughter.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Delores and siblings, Alejandro, Raymond, John and Albert Cortez and Elvira Rodriguez, Sadie Gomez and Tomasa Garcia. He is survived by his brother, Louie Pantoja, Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of loving extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 2 - 8:00 pm at Newcomer, West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Road (419-392-9500). A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Adalbert Roman Catholic Church, 3233 Lagrange Street. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery.
