Jerry Chitwood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend,  passed away on October 30, 2024 in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born on October 6, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, and lived a life defined by service, dedication, and joy.

Jerry served proudly in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, achieving the rank of E-7 Chief as a Telephone Repairman. His military career took him to many corners of the globe, including Morocco, the Philippines, and Guam. He was a seasoned veteran who served during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Crisis, earning respect and admiration for his commitment to his country.

After retiring from the Navy, Jerry continued to exemplify hard work and dedication in his professional life at Progressive Industries, where he retired in 2005. Following retirement, he pursued his passions, finding joy in gardening and motorcycle riding. He was a proud member of the Legion Riders and the American Legion Post #578, where he made lasting friendships and continued to serve his community.

Jerry was known as the "King of the one-liners," with a quick wit that brought laughter to those around him. He was generous and always ready to lend a helping hand, embodying a spirit of kindness that left a lasting impression on his family and friends. His love for his family was evident to everyone who knew him, and he cherished the moments spent with them.

He enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, playing games, and working on projects around the house. A lover of old westerns and country music, Jerry's joyful spirit was infectious, and he will be remembered for his happy-go-lucky demeanor.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Chitwood of 58 years; daughter, Brandie Nahm; son, Noel W. Chitwood; grandchildren, Alexis, Marissa, Morgan, and Ian; great-grandchildren, Easton, Gunnar, Walker, Ivy, and Roman; his mother, Jennie Chitwood; and siblings Bill Dawson, Sandy Hume, Debby Kuhl, Sue Dawson, Beckie Dawson, and Sam Dawson. He was predeceased by his father, Noel Chitwood, and his many loving dogs and grand-dog. 

Memorial services to honor the life of Jerry Chitwood will take place on November 16, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, with a gathering starting at 11:00 AM and the memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM.

Jerry's dedication to his family and his country stand as his proudest accomplishments, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
