Jeannine Moree Meeker

November 15, 1931 — February 8, 2024

It's with great sadness for those of us left behind that we announce the passing of Jeannine Moree Meeker. She was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend to many. She went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on February 8, 2024 on a beautiful 60° day with blue skies and a gentle breeze blowing in. She was surrounded by family and friends as she made this final, peaceful journey.

She was born Jeannine Moree on November 15, 1931 to Leland Ellsworth Moree, Sr. and Frances Leota (Rice) Moree at her Aunt Beulah (Moree) Barton's home on Wendover Drive in Toledo. Jeannine (or Nean, as she was affectionately known) attended DeVilbiss High School and graduated as a 49er! Nean attended the University of Toledo where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Thus began a long and rewarding career of teaching with Washington Local Schools, primarily at Trilby Elementary for almost 30 years. She was delighted whenever she would run into former students and their children throughout Northwest Ohio.

Jeannine married the love of her life, James Allen Meeker, Sr. on July 10, 1953. They had two children, a son, James Allen Meeker, Jr.; and a daughter, Michelle Moree Meeker. It was the perfect family for a child to grow up in.

Jeannine spent years helping to make quilts for the homeless with Mama Marie's Quilts through Augsburg Lutheran Church, where she made many cherished friendships. She also volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop on Sylvania Avenue where they always had good times!

In addition to her parents, Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Meeker, Sr.; son, James A. Meeker, Jr.; and sister, Joyce Ann (Moree) Eberle.

Left to cherish her memory and strive to live life as she did is her loving daughter, Michelle M. Meeker. She is also survived by her older brother, Leland Ellsworth Moree, Jr. (Elizabeth Bowers); numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews and various generations of wonderful, lifelong friends.

Her family would like to thank StoryPoint of Waterville for their loving care, and for truly welcoming her into their hearts. We would also like to thank Elara Hospice, who made her comfortable in her final days.

She will be remembered as a gentle soul who had a sassy side that came out more and more in her golden years!

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. in Toledo (Northwest Chapel) followed by a brief service. Light refreshments will be provided.

Those wishing to make a donation in her memory, please consider the Humane Society of Toledo, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared at NewcomerToledo.com.
