Jeannette Evelyn Huffman, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 14, 2023 on her 66th wedding anniversary. She was born February 22, 1935 to Fred and Margaret (Scheater) Miller in Mansfield, OH, raised in Tiffin, OH. She graduated cum laude from Tiffin Columbia in 1953. Jeannette worked her last year in high school at Tiffin Mercy Hospital which led to her career in nursing. She was a 1956 graduate of the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing and a proud and active alumna of both alma maters. She received the lifetime pin from THSN Alumni for 50 year membership. Jeannette also worked for three years at the Visiting Nurses Association and finished the last 18 years of her nursing career at the American Red Cross as head nurse on blood mobiles.
Highlights of her retirement included many winters in the Melbourne and later, Leesburg areas of Florida. Extensive travel throughout the USA; including Alaska, and Canada with her husband as well as a trip in 1998 organized by her son Russell to Austria and Germany. During this trip, Jeannette was able to meet in person a "pen pal" in Austria with whom she corresponded from 1947 until present. She was a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church during retirement. In Toledo she met the love of her life, David Huffman, they were married in 1957. She was a stay-at-home mom for 13 years active at; Upton United Methodist Church from 1985 and later FUMC, in her four sons' schooling, cub scouts and webelos; and in organizing many picnic and camping trips with church friends and extended family.
Left to cherish Jeannette's memory are her loving husband of 66 years, David Huffman; sons, Gregory "Woody" (Cindy Brundage), Scott, Russell and Jeffrey; grandchildren, Heather Huffman, Lauren Huffman, Jeffrey Huffman and Sarah Huffman; sister, Judy Martin; sisters-in-law, Pauline Harrell, Velerh Bruno, Salinda Cowdrey, and Charlene Huffman; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joann, Shirley and Sharon.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. at Sylvania First United Methodist Church, 7000 Erie St., Sylvania, OH 43560 with a luncheon to follow in Fellowship Hall.
The family appreciates the compassionate care provided to Jeannette by ProMedica Hospice and the Lakes of Sylvania.
