Jean C. Sayre-Chapman

Jean C. Sayre Chapman, age 97, of Sylvania passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice. She was born in Fostoria on February 27, 1921, the daughter of Robert W. Sayre and Joy Hovis Sayre. She was preceded in death by beloved husband, Walter H. Chapman who passed on June 23, 2015.
Jean and husband Walter founded and operated the Chapman Gallery where for nearly 40 years Jean served as Walter's producer and gallery director. Jean managed Walter's itinerary of painting demonstrations, seminars, classes, gallery openings and art shows. Scheduled at various venues, both local and national these events reached thousands of grateful students and many appreciative admirers. Jean and Walter were both committed to community support of the arts and philanthropic endeavors. Her final days were lived enquiring about and showing her loving concern for everyone.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard 'Dick' Swihart, his wife Liz and their son Sean; and John Swihart and his wife Joyce.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4 - 8:00 PM at Newcomer - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Road (419-473-0300)
Her funeral service will begin on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Sylvania First United Methodist Church, 7000 Erie Street, Sylvania , OH 43560 with Pastor Tom Rand, PhD officiating. Visitation before the service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chapman Scholarship Fund at Lourdes University.
