Jean Purdy was born December 24, 1943 to Arlene Gauthier and Glen McConnell. An only child, she was raised by her mom and family friend Maxine McGranahan. She graduated from Waite High School and worked at Tiedkties at the candy counter, then in Accounts payable at Owens Corning. Jean was married to Bruce D Purdy on May 13, 1967. After her oldest daughter Vickey was born, she returned to work at Snap-on-Tools. When Vickey was two, she decided to be a stay-at-home mom, raising her three children: Vickey, Bruce and Debbie. Jean was a room parent for all 3 of her kid's classes. She helped the teachers in their classroom, was a member of the PTA and Mothers Club for East Side Central School and active with America's Pride of Toledo. She was a founding member of Calvary Bible Chapel Church where she attended until she could no longer drive.
Always a caregiver, Jean took her mother-in-law Treva Purdy and grandparents, Robert and Marge Gauthier, to their doctor's appointments and grocery shopping. She babysat numerous kids until Debbie became too sick and needed all her care. She continued to be a stay-at-home mom after her little Angel Debbie went home to heaven in March 1986.
After her divorce in 1990, she started working as a Unit Clerk for Toledo Hospital until she retired in 2006. During those years, she spent much of her free time with her granddaughter Melanie or taking care of her mom Arlene.
When her mom passed in 2013, she started making comfort pillows for Hospice until she was no longer able to sew due to her vision and arthritis in her hands. Jean struggled with arthritis for many years, but it was kidney failure that led to her hospitalization in October 2023.
Jean is preceded in death by her daughter Debbie Lyn Purdy, former Husband Bruce D Purdy Sr., mother Arlene (Gauthier) McConnell and father Glen McConnell, and grandparents Robert and Margorie (Derickson) Gauthier. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Vickey and Timothy Cox, son Bruce Purdy Jr, and granddaughter Melanie Cox along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews and many longtime friends.
