Born Mary Jean Kesler January 17, 1922 to Harold F. and Mary Helen(Gasser) Kesler she lived in Toledo, Lima and Flint during her childhood. She graduated from Scott High and the University of Toledo earning a bachelor of science degree in biology. She married Edward Martin Scherer September 1, 1945, he preceded her in death after 67 years of marriage on August 28, 2012. She is survived by son, Bruce Edward Scherer and daughter in law, Cathy ; grandchildren, Ryan Edward and Kelsey Marie, and sisters Carolyn Gray and Helen Chapman.
Jean retired from the Toledo Hospital where she worked as a lab bacteriologist, following earlier jobs with privately practicing physicians, in particular Dr. Stifle. She spent many hours researching the family's genealogical record, tracing it back prior to the Revolutionary War, to Germany and England. She had an enduring interest in botany, and was an avid gardener. She was active in the Toledo French Club, studying the language for most of her adult life, was a classically trained pianist and had a number of community interests. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

The family will receive guests on Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., (419-473-0300). Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
