Jean A. McFarland, age 74, a lifelong resident of Toledo, passed away Saturday, February 5th, 2011 at Lake Park Care Center, Sylvania. She was born April 26th, 1936 to Earl and Evelyn (Walmsley) Tallman in Toledo. Jean was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Class of 1954 and went on to attend and graduate from the University of Toledo receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1958. She was employed with TPS for 25 years as a Substitute Teacher. Jean was a lifetime member of Hampton Park Christian Church where she was a Camp Christian Counselor involved with Christian Youth Fellowship. She was also a caregiver in the church Nursery and an active member of the Women's Fellowship and a Communion Preparer. Jean's hobbies included spending many years in Bunco Club, spending time as a Girl Scout Leader, camping and taking day trips with her dear friends. Jean was also a lover of animals and cooking. Jean was also a frequent visitor of the Alzheimer's Daycare Center on Reynolds Rd.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard James McFarland and cousin, Pat Purcell. She is survived by her loving children, Scott McFarland and Julie (Greg) Genson; grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Taylor and Alex and Matt Genson; great grandchildren, Karina and Kevin Taylor and close family friends, "The Pat's", Pat May, Pat Welch and Pat Stutler and Nancy Moscrop and Judy Hirschle.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 1-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
