Jay Lorenzo Snyder, age 80, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born May 22, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to George Snyder and Hazel White. Jay was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy who served on the U.S.S. Abbot in the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW 3338 and a member of the American Legion Post 320 in Maumee. Jay made all the wood flag display cases, many woodworking projects and many other projects along with Walter Corron for the benefit of the Post. Jay worked 34.5 years at GM Powertrain retiring in 1995 as a journeyman sheet metal worker. He was a proud union member at UAW Local 14. He held an elected position as Recreational Director for 27 years. Jay, along with many others, was instrumental in helping to create the UAW/GM park on Jackman Road behind the plant. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and had season tickets for many years at UT watching football and basketball games.
Jay married Nancy Presser September 3, 1960 and were married 54 years. Jay and Nancy traveled extensively with their good friends, Melvin and Ruth Moulton going on 7 houseboat trips, drove out west, transported motor homes to Alaska, drove to Nova Scotia and down the east coast and a cruise to Hawaii. Jay was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Cheryl (Steve Nagy); son, Todd Snyder (Lori); sister, Barbara Miklosek; grandchildren, Alexis Hiltz, Samantha Hiltz and Andrew Snyder; great grandchildren, Elijah and Sariya; brother-in-law, Chuck Presser (Dorene) and son-in-law, Scott Hiltz.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) across from the Stranahan Theatre; on Friday, September 19, 2014 with a gathering starting at 10:00 a.m. and a service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. A Military Service will be conducted by the American Legion Post 320 and the Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with full Military Honors at the funeral home.
