Janis "Jan" Childers

March 16, 1944 — October 15, 2014

The 15th day of October 2014 Janis (Jan) Childers entered into her resting place in heaven with a peace in her heart and awaiting her new body in heaven with Jesus Christ her Savior. Janis was born March 16, 1944 to Howard and Elsie Lohr of Martin, Ohio who preceded her in death. She married Lawton Childers on November 27, 1998 at the Elliston Zion United Methodist Church. Lawton and Jan had a wonderful relationship together for many years before marriage and almost five years married life when he passed on September 13, 2003 and now the two are reunited. Janis graduated in 1962 from Clay Genoa High School, attended Stautzenberger Business College, University of Toledo, and Lourdes College preparing for her career in accounting. Janis worked for Francis Pizza PA for 17 years, then started Janis Smith Bookkeeping & Tax Service in 1981 at the Ottawa Hills Shopping Center and in 1983 became associated with Arlene Westfall. Janis was an EA (Enrolled Agent), member of NAEA, NW Chapter of OSSEA and attended numerous OSSEA conventions, and tax seminars around the U.S. Jan had worked at Colburn Patterson LLC for the past 10 years and retired when she was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. She was a long time member of Elliston Zion UMC for most of her life being active in the Friends in Fellowship Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and was treasurer of the Building Committee for the Fellowship Hall. In June 2013, Jan joined Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Soul Care, Emmanuel Lites and Women of Hope.

Janis is survived by her sister Karen (Don) Domonkos, brother Lee (Kathy) Lohr, niece Diane Fisher, nephews Michael (Stacy) Lohr and Joel (Amy) Lohr, great nieces Brittani and Madelyn, great nephews Austin and Brady, aunt and uncle Ruth and Glenn Shinn, special friends Diane and Amy Herzig, her dog Hollywood Too, Alex Purnell and Autumn Brown who have been a God send to Jan. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo, OH, 43623 on Saturday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church /Missionary Mark Self or to the donor's choice. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ashanti Hospice Team, the Pastors at Emmanuel Baptist Church and the many members who were so kind during her short illness, her cousins and friends for the many visits, prayers, and thoughts.
