Janet K. Petrotte, 85, of Toledo, OH unexpectedly passed into our memory April 4, 2025 at home with her husband. A celebration of Janet's life will be held as an open house May 11, 2025 from noon to 4:00pm at Secor Park, Secor Room in Berkey, OH.
Janet was born October 18, 1939 in Streator, IL to Albert and Katherine (Tkachik) Kmetz. She graduated from St. Steven's Elementary and Streator High School, studied cosmetology in Peoria, IL and became a beautician at Charm Beauty Salon in Streator, where she gave her charming husband-to-be a manicure. Richard "Dick" Petrotte and Janet married in 1962 and lived in San Francisco, CA while Dick served in the Army and their first child was born. Janet made many dear friends throughout the years in Toledo and Clarion, PA where volunteering was part of her life. She prepared scratch meals for the Immaculate Conception School cafeteria, served at the Wildwood Manor House during holidays and found joy taking puppies to nursing home seniors. She also worked as a secretary with Danberry Realtors. Above all, Janet was a loving wife and mother. She exuded warmth and compassion, and her family was her raison d'etre. She cherished spending time and doting on her two granddaughters. Janet was guided by a strong moral compass and instilled the same in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, walking, crocheting, reading, gourmet baking and cooking, watching birds, playing cards, water exercise, and trying new restaurants. Janet looked forward to her annual holiday tradition of making butterfly cookies for friends and family. In her later years, she occasionally enjoyed a good margarita with the love of her life and their special friends. We will all miss Janet's gentle loving personality and the twinkle in her eyes.
In addition to her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her brother, Albert (Joyce) Kmetz; sister-in-law, Betty Kmetz and brother-in-law, Phillip Gautschy. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Petrotte; daughter, Lynn (Charlton DuRant) Petrotte; son, Eric (Kristin Nortz) Petrotte; granddaughters, Sophia Petrotte and Ava Petrotte; brother, William Kmetz and twin sister, Janice Gautschy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Metroparks Toledo Foundation.
