Emma Jane Shelhart, age 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 4, 1923 to Alonzo and Rhoda (Pickering) Fritts in Toledo. Jane was employed at Riverside Hospital for over 30 years. She started in laundry services, then the sewing room and retired from central supply. Jane loved to sew and was an excellent baker. She was most known for her famous apple pie and her apple butter, which will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to try it. Jane enjoyed nothing more than the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Shelhart; brothers, Ernest, Leonard "Jeff", Wayne, Don, Robert, John and Jimmy Fritts; and sister, Iris Fritts. Jane is survived by her loving sons, Michael (Chrislyn) and David "Gary" (Bonnie) Shelhart; grandchildren, Katherine (Jacob) Tillman, Eric (Rachelle), Aaron (Rebecca), Douglas (Lynn), Joshua (Angela) and Alexander Shelhart; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brenden, Rase, Elijah and Ethan Shelhart; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends at Luther Crest.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
