Jane Harriet Smith, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 at Foundation Park Care Center. She was born August 21, 1918 to Hugo and Grace (Phillips) Globig in Toledo. Jane enjoyed bowling, singing and dancing. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved seeing the many costumes and handing out treats. Jane spent many years collecting butterflies of all kinds. She was also a talented poet and writer, writing several poems and short stories that were published in the Toledo Blade for all to enjoy. Jane was truly a proud mother, grandmother cherishing the time she spent with her family.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Smith and brothers, Larry; Paul and Bud Globig. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn (Mike) Schabeck and son, Jack Smith; grandchildren, Tammy Janicki; Vincent DeCesare; Jeff (Lisa) Smith and Greg Smith and their mother, Sherry Smith; great grandchildren, Ashley and Chris Janicki and Brody and Rylee Smith; great-great grandson, Drake Janicki; sisters, Evelyn (Chuck) Plentz; Grace Clary and Hattie "Lou" (Chuck) Olender and brothers, John (Bev) Globig and Bob (Betty) Globig; like-a-son, Ron Michaels and many special nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Tim Schabeck. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
