James T. "Jay Bird" Young, age 76, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully Friday, June 5, 2009 at Ebeid Hospice, Flower Hospital Campus. He was born on March 30, 1933 to Harry and Rebecca (Alford) Young in Lay Co., Kentucky. Jay owned and operated J&V Construction Company for many years, he then was a welder with City Auto Stamping for 20 years, he was the co-owner of Day's Café & Carry Out for 11 years and then went back to siding for many years. He retired in 2002, but still continued to do small jobs. Jay was a member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and playing cards, especially poker. Jay loved nothing more than spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Virginia Young, brother, Thomas Young and sister, Elsie Large. Jay is survived by his girlfriend, Marchell Myrice and her two children, Nicole and Joshua; children, Rebecca (Danny) Pierce, of Toledo, Elizabeth "Beth Ann"(Skip) Johnson, of TN and William Young, of FL; grandchildren, Sarah York, Dustin Hames and Andrew Flaten; great-granddaughter, Cheyenna York; brother, Charles (Donna) Young; sister, Joyce Cravens; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday from 1 – 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at a later date in Toledo Memorial Park.
