James T. "Jim" Mettler, age 80, of Toledo, went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Toledo Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 26, 1931 to Thurman and Agnes (Stoekley) Mettler in Toledo. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a sheet metal worker for over 50 years, retiring from Sperling Heating. Jim was a longtime member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 and St. Pius X Catholic Church. He sang with Community Singers and in the church choir. Jim loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Bellair) Mettler, they just celebrated 59 years of marriage on May 16th; children, Theresa Mettler (Martin), Michael (Jessica) Mettler, Scott Mettler and Michelle (Alan) Baidel; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Barbara (Peter) Lorentz; his loving pet, Crazy Daisy; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends he has made over the years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Joseph and Dorothy Bellair and grandson, David Martin, II.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3011 Carskaddon, Toledo, Ohio. Entombment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
