James Carl Sweet, age 74, of Toledo, OH, passed away June 20, 2022 at Ebied Hospice Residence. James was born November 12, 1947 in Toledo to Clyde and Mary (Sturtz) Sweet. He was employed through UA Local 50 Plumber, Steamfitters, and Service Mechanics Union for more than 40 years as a pipefitter. James was proud to serve as trustee of Local 50 for several years. Besides working at Davis Besse and Perry Nuclear Power Plants, James was lead foreman on the fountain installation at Seagate One in downtown Toledo. James worked in various states over the course of his career and after some vacationing and volunteer work led to pipe fitting opportunities, he settled in the Dominican Republic where he retired and lived for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his close friends, Thomas Wonders and Richard Roth. He is survived by his loving wife, Flavia Sweet; son, James R. Sweet; daughter, Melissa (Jason) Sweet-Bryant; step-daughters, Estefany (Victor) Hernandez and Nataly Valdez; brothers, Clyde (Cynthia), Theodore (Patricia) and John (Priscilla) Sweet; grandchildren, Marcqueis Cheatham, Kloie Sweet, and Zoie Sweet; step-grandchildren, JaSona and Janea Bryant; step-great-grandchildren, Denim, Loyal, and Devyn.
The family will receive guests Friday, June 24, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions, from 2:00 pm-2:30 pm, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614 (419-381-1900). Memorial Services will begin Friday at 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Mercy Cancer Center Perrysburg, OH, and Dr. Alkhalili for all their care during this difficult time.
