James E. Sims Sr.

James E. Sims Sr., age 79, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at St. Anne's Hospital. He was born on May 13, 1942, to the late Emmet and Frieda (Sparks) Sims.
Growing up on a farm, working was engrained in him. He worked as a truck driver for Roadway Express, where he retired after 27 years. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and watching sports, especially the Cleveland Browns. An avid golfer, he would go on vacations, where he would enjoy playing golf with his golf league. James was a family man; family was very important to him. He enjoyed and cherished the memories that were made. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Doris (Carter) Sims, whom he married on April 12, 1968; children, Angela Carter, Betty Sims, Lily Sims, Jamey Kohli, and James E. Sims Jr.; grandchildren, Brandon (Daylin) Sims, Ashley Scott, Michal (Amber) Sims, Nichole Scott, Scotty Sims, Megan Nelson, Amanda (Jamil) Khalil, Tiffany (Nathan) McBride, Dionte Carter, Amber Gonzalez, Destiny Kohli, Gabriella Willoughby, James E. Sims III, Cheyenne Page, and Faith Page; and numerous great grandchildren, other family members and friends. Each of them will forever miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael G. Kohli Jr.
Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Brandon Sims officiating. James will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park.
