James D. "Jim" Power, age 67 of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in his sleep. He was born on November 26, 1944 to Andrew J. and Juanita V. (Carpenter) Power in Toledo. Jim was a graduate of Waite High School, Class of 1964. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. during the Vietnam Conflict. Jim retired after 30 years of service from Dana Corp and was also a member of the U.A.W. Local 12. Jim was an avid sports fan and baseball card collector. He also enjoyed classic car shows, traveling the United States and canoeing in Mohican during the summer. Most importantly his family will remember his bowling ability; he began bowling as a young child and continued throughout his life, bowling in many tournaments and leagues throughout Toledo. Jim was also a member of the Blue's Society in Toledo.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Robin (Perry) Power; and his only son, Robert James (Michele) Power; grandson, Jackson James Power; step-son, Douglas Cousino (Doreen Calevro) and step-grandchildren, Doug, Brittany, Morgan, Dylan, Madalynn and Macy; step-daughter, Kelli (Herb) King and step-grandchildren, Chelsae and Michael; brothers, Norm (Mary Lynn) Power and William Power and a host of special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Parr and brother, Larry Power.
The family will receive guests Friday, May 25, 2012 from 2-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). There will be a Sharing of Memories held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home followed by Military Services, provided by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society.
