James M. Morton, Jr.

November 11, 1942 — September 30, 2022

James M. Morton, Jr., of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 30, 2022, in the Toledo Hospital at the age of 79.

Born to James and Marie Morton on November 11, 1942, in Pontiac, Michigan, Jim grew up in a loving home with sisters Marisue and Nancy in Clarkston, Michigan. Jim graduated from Waterford High School, Oakland University and the University of Michigan Law School. He practiced law for more than fifty years, spending much of this time at Fuller & Henry, followed by several years with Anspach, Meeks & Ellenberger.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Marie Morton; sister, Marisue (Gary) Miller; son, Joseph (Jenny) Slivinski and his daughter, Kathleen (Joseph) Flahiff. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Inge (Hinz) Morton, and his sister, Nancy (Bernie) Gross; his children, Jennifer Morton (Morgan Loesch), James M. Morton, III (Tammy), Joseph Flahiff (surviving husband of Kathleen Flahiff) and Marie Suplica (EJ); and grandchildren, Rowan Loesch, Marshall Morton, James Morton, IV, Inge K. Morton, Joseph Flahiff, Geneva Flahiff, Lucille Suplica, Jack Suplica, Julia Slivinski and Michael Slivinski.

Jim was a man of many passions. He was a voracious reader, a lover of all gadgets, and passionate about the game of golf. Most of all, he was a man who truly enjoyed helping people; whether it was to solve their problems or to just make you laugh, Jim was in his element when he had people around him. His kind and generous heart, his great affection for family, and his unique personality and spirit will not be forgotten.

He did not fear death. Instead he chose to embrace the living. He kept a poem in his wallet, by Robert H. Smith, that his father previously kept in his wallet. Jim lived and loved knowing that this would all come to an end some day. Those left behind feel solace in the unquestionable knowledge that they were loved by him.

The Clock of Life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop,
At late or early hour.
Now is the only time we own
Love, live, toil with a will,
Do not wait until tomorrow,
For the Clock may then be still.
