James R. Mock, age 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away May 10th, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 14, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to Helen E. Stouffer and William L. Mock. Jim attended Saint Michaels Catholic School and Macomber High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and was Past Commander of the American Legion Vernon McCune Ohio Post 132.
He was employed by Willys-Overland Motors, Jeep and Michael Realty and later became a general contractor in property management. Even after retirement Jim went on to co-found Grounds Co. with his son, Andrew.
Jim cherished the Masonic groups that called him brother. He was a member of the Damascus-Collingwood Blue Lodge, Zenobia Shrine and the Toledo Commandry as well as Past Monarch of O-Ton-Ta La Grotto, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star Toledo Chapter 341, and President of the local High Twelve Club. Jim was active at Little Flower Catholic Church where he attended daily mass. He was always an avid gardener and could be found working in his garden until dusk. Jim enjoyed collecting many, many treasures over the years and often shared the stories of such with his best buddies Davi and Miles who just happened to be his grandsons!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Paul Mock; son-in-law, Larry Black; and brother-in-law, James Walker. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Maureen (Irelan) Mock; sister, Virginia Walker; sons, James (Sherri) and Andrew (Nikki) Mock; daughters, Jeanne Black, Joellen Taylor, and Katie Mock; grandchildren, Heather, Davi, Miles, McKeise, Crystle, Stephen, and Heidi Mock; his devoted cat, Broutis; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, May 14, 2017 from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). There will be an Order of the Eastern Star starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by Damascus Collingwood Blue Lodge and the American Legion. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, Ohio 43615. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
