James E. Meek, age 79, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born February 14, 1933 in Toledo to Edwin E. and Dorothy (Oman) Meek. Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by numerous trucking companies as a truck driver most recently with Bender Loudin for many years. Jim was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. According to Jim, "I'm an Ohio Buckeye fan, I hope everyone will understand that this team is the best so if you'll excuse me now it's time for me to rest." Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Gail (Barfield) Meek whom he married April 8, 1956; children, James (Cathy) Meek, Randy Meek (Bonnie) and Debra Field (Kevin); grandchildren, James Paul, Desire´, Tiffany, Stephanie and Stacey; great grandchildren, Nathan, Sierra, C.J. and Tony; siblings, Rose Marie Kallil, Thomas (Jo Ellen) Meek, Marjorie Zmijewski, Patricia (Gary) Hudson and Charlene (Roger) Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, (419-473-0300). Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Military committal services will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
