James C. Mathis, Jr., age 72, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 25th, 2020 at Browning Care. James was born December 9th, 1947 in Toledo to James and Irma (McNary) Mathis. He was Self Employed for more than 30 years as a Carpenter until his health caused him to retire.
James was an avid bowler active on several leagues at local alleys. He enjoyed Billiards and music of all genres. James was also known for his voracious reading, some of his favorite authors were Sydney Sheldon and Harold Robbins. He loved being outdoors spending hours fishing on the river and taking long walks enjoying nature's quiet areas. James was often seen riding his bicycle all over the city. His family will also remember him for his intellect, he was the quiet thinker, always pondering life and its many meanings.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings, Jamey L. Barnett, Paula L. Mathis, Eva L. Williams and Lisa M. Jones. He is survived by his sons, James Mathis, III, Gregory Mathis & Elgin Rose; siblings, Dennis C. Mathis, Jerome F. Mathis, Eric Mathis, Alan W. Mathis & Celeste R. Mathias.
The family will receive guests Saturday, September 5th, 2020 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Sharing of Memories will begin Saturday at 4:00 pm.
