James L. Johnson, Sr.

James L. Johnson Sr., resident of Toledo, OH, passed away on March 20, 2023 at age 81. Son of the late Leon and Essie Johnson. Beloved father of James Johnson, Melinda Johnson, Brian Johnson, Vincent Johnson, Jamar Johnson, Freddy Slaughter, Samantha Slaughter, and Sonny Slaughter. Cherished grandfather and great-grandfather of many. Brother of 6 siblings, who all preceded him in death.

James was known for his tough love. He provided for his family and took pride in taking care of them. As a father, he never showed fear and was always up for the challenge. He was fond of cars and mechanics. He loved sharing his knowledge with his sons and showing them basic mechanic skills. To this day, his children take this knowledge with them, sharing the same love for cars, but also in remembrance of their father. James' love for his children was strong and will continue with his memory forever. "Anything that hurts you, take care of it, so it can never hurt you again." He will be greatly missed by his family members and friends.

He was processed in death by his mother and father Leon an Essie Mae Johnson also Velvet Bell, Larone Cardell brothers, Leon , Walter and Johnny Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Eva Reasonover of Toledo Ohio; children, James Johnson Jr, Melinda Johnson, Freddie and Samantha Slaughter, Vincent Johnson, Sonia Johnson, Jamar Johnson and Brian Johnson an Twenty plus grand children and great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service directly following, at 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614.
