James F. Skinner

James F. Skinner, 87, of Toledo passed away on July 28, 2014. Born April 21, 1927 in Portsmouth, OH to Hazel Thompson and later adopted by Clarence Skinner. The first 9 years of his life he lived on a tobacco farm in Northern Kentucky before moving to Toledo. His first job was a Toledo paper boy to help support his family during the Depression. He served with honor in the Pacific fleet during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Upon his return he married his long time childhood sweetheart, Ruth Ann Lockard.

His career continued with Whitney Electric, Dunn & Bradstreet and Peerless Molded Plastics. Partnered with Peerless, he began a small plastics finishing operation on Secor Rd. and eventually grew it into an extensive commercial property, now known as Secor Business Park which is still a large part, as he was, of the Trilby business community. He was a member of the Trilby Rotary Club, the Washington Local School Board and for many years served on the board and building committees at Collingwood United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Skinner; father, Clarence Skinner; sisters, Majul Hill and Glennis Bricker and granddaughter, Cady Skinner. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth A. (Lockard) Skinner; sons, Michael J. (Anna) Skinner, Jeff A. (Terry) Skinner; daughter, Cheryl A. (Rich) Meinke; 16 grandchildren and dozens of great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300), near Talmadge Rd., on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
