James E. "Jim" Heinl, age 82, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 16, 2016. He was born on January 23, 1934 to Bernard and Agnes (Fenn) Heinl in Toledo. Jim was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service as a helicopter instructor pilot who served over 7 years with Air America in Vietnam. He later retired as a U.S. Postal worker, a 3rd generation mail carrier. Jim was a huge Notre Dame fan, master carpenter and a life long baseball umpire.
He was a member of Christ the King Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a Usher, member of Maumee Eagles #2562 and Conn Weissenberger Post #587. He was also the M.C. and soloist with the Road Show Entertainers and was a devoted and loyal friend of Bill W.
Left to cherish his memory is his significant other, Jackie Tressler; daughter, Terri (Jim) Steck and their daughter, Jaimie, James Heinl, Jr. and Richard (Melissa) Heinl; sisters, Lucie Heinl-Lukasik, Sr. Mary Louisa S.N.D., Mary Margaret Einhart, Dolores Mack, Catherine (Jerry) Feck and Carol Szurminski; Jackie's two sons, Rob (Patty) Tressler and Marc (Karen) Tressler and their children; step-brother, Harry (Jean) Roberts, Anthony (Marianne) Matthews and Ronald (Jerry) Matthews; step-sister, Helen Marie (Richard) Michalek. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Jr. and David; sisters, infant Louise, Bernadine, Dorothy and Sr. Mary Immaculee, S.N.D. step-brothers, Richard, William and John Roberts and Tom Matthews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). On Thursday in the funeral home there will be a Scripture Service starting at 7:00 p.m., followed by American Legion Services and concluding visitation will be a Sharing of Memories for family and friends. Visitation will also be on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the funeral home from 10 - 11:00 a.m., where final prayers will begin at 11:15 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) with Rev. William J. Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
