James Douglas

James Douglas, age 67, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 25 after suffering a massive stroke on Friday. Born and raised in Toledo. His grandfather started the original Douglas Fence Company before his mother and father bought Terrain Fence Co. Jim worked for several fence companies until a back injury disabled him from returning to a job he loved, erecting fence. He always thought of it as creating a piece of art not just a fence job. One of his favorite childhood memories was playing in the fence pipe racks as a fort being totally unaware of the tons of pipe that could crush him with any wrong move. He loved visiting with his Grandma Douglas who lived next door and listening to her tales of growing up in Scotland and extravagant family Christmas's up at her house.

When he was 13, he met the love of his life, Sandy, whom he would serenade thru his bedroom window in attempts to play his guitar while she visited a friend across the street. They married in 1968 and raised 3 children. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 55 and proud of it. Jim was not a hunter or a fisherman or a sportsman, but he loved going to the movies, watching American Pickers, Pawn Stars and Alaskan Goldrush along with most of the other reality shows. He loved yearly camping trips when he was younger and family trips to Shipshewana flea market. You couldn't take him anywhere without his one and only drink, Pepsi.

Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 48 years Sandy; Daughters, Tara (David) Valdez, Meagan Douglas (Robert Harmon); Son James (Denise) Douglas; 5 grandchildren, Xavier, Zoe, Liam, Lexi, and Luke; and his beloved 3 lb Yorkie, Chloe.

The family will receive guests on Friday from 3 – 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd, Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Shriner's Children's Hospital or ProMedica Hospice.
