James "Jim" Desko, age 90, of Ottawa Lake, MI, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Ebeid Hospice Residence. He was born on March 25, 1930 to Mike and Ethel Desko in Erie, Pennsylvania. Jim worked for New York Central Railroad for many years and then went on to retire from Conrail after over 45 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends over the years. Jim was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was an avid boater and fisherman for many years. Jim enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jim's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his children, Marilyn Dobrolenski, Steve (Patricia) Desko, MaryJane Duskey; grandchildren, Dawn Desko, Phillip Duskey, Danetta (Jonathan) Van Buren, Josh Desko, and Janetta Stoiber; great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Cara), MaryAnn, Riley, Kelsy, Jonathan Jr., Wyatt, Evie, Bradley, Hannah, and Isaiah; great-great-grandchildren, Jaden, Holly, Ashton, Abel, and Aria; sister, Margaret Nichols; sister-in-law, Barb Desko; many nieces nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Desko; son-in-law, Donald Duskey; and siblings, Betty and John Charters, Mike Desko, and Paul Nichols.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
