James "Tom" Thomas Cox, age 78, a longtime resident of Holland, Ohio passed away Sunday, October 25th, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 25, 1941 in Gatliff, Kentucky to Hobert and Clara (Leach) Cox. Tom married his sweetheart, Sue Linnenkugel on August 20, 1960 and together they started their family. The father of 8, Tom and Sue kept busy raising the kids. Walleye fishing on Lake Erie and camping were some things that were important to Tom because these events allowed him to spend time creating special memories with his children. Tom enjoyed gardening and taught others his technique of canning. He was also a great cook, hosting family get-together's while he prepared many of his all-time favorite dishes.
Tom was a US Marine Veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a former member of the Marine Corps League, Lou Diamond Detachment #272 and Chapter 5 AA. Tom was also a former Spencer Township Trustee and a Volunteer Fireman with the Spencer Township Fire Department. He was a trained Welder and Fabricator employed with the Derco Manufacturing several years.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his children, Jennifer Suzanne Cox and Joseph Allan Cox. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Suzanne B. (Linnenkugel) Cox; children, James T. (Faith) Cox, Joan Marie Ferner, Jill Ann (Randy) Wurm, John Ben (Sarah) Cox, Jane Elizabeth (William, III) Schoof and Jennette Michelle (John) Price; grandchildren, Warrant Officer Robert (Louise) Ferner, Jacklyn Marie Ferner, Debbie (Dave) Denlis, Blake (Amanda) Warner, Branden Warner, Ben Warner, Tylor Cox, Samuel Schoof, Maxwell Schoof, Alexis Cox, Elliot Cox, Ariel Childress; Thomas Price, Rosalynn Price, Alyssa Price and Kaitlynn Price; great grandchildren, Elijah Rose and Ryleigh Denlis. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Billy Joe (Marion) Cox, Janice Lammon and Larry (Lynn) Cox.
A Mass of Remembrance will begin Thursday at 11:00 am. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marygrove, 1750 North Raab Rd. Swanton, Ohio 43558. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery with Military Honors provided by the US Marine Corps.
