James L. "Jim" Caris, age 79, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Monday, January 31, 2022 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with loving family by his side. He was born on January 20, 1943 to Lowell and Vivian Caris. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during the Vietnam War where he was a cook. Jim was an excellent painter and builder. He built, owned and operated many different types of concessions and games at carnivals, festivals and fairs. Jim's biggest passion was owning race horses. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, cats, and birds. He liked to go to the casino, play Bingo and cards. Jim filled up any room he walked into with laughter. He was charming, charismatic, and generous. He looked forward to time spent with his family and friends. Jim's smile, spirit and caring nature will be truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce E. Caris; brothers, Richard "Dick" Caris and Denny Caris; and canine companions, Bear and Molly. Left to cherish his memory are his 6 children; 3 step-children; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Debbie Caris; end of life companion who loved and adored him, Sally Stewart; brother-in-law, John (Marge) Schmieder; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
