Jacqueline Luckett-Johnson

November 23, 1947 — April 5, 2016

Jacqueline Luckett-Johnson was born November 23rd, 1947, to Wardine Spearman, (Luckett ), and Clarence "O.C." Spearman, Sr., in Moorehead, Mississippi. Clarence and Wardine moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he found work for his growing family. At that time, Jacqueline was 5 years old, the couple's oldest of ten children.

"Jackie," "Ms. Jackie," "Momma Jackie" as she was so affectionately called, began her academic schooling at Gunkel Elementary School, and transferred to Westfield Elementary School. She then went on to Jones Junior High and began to receive academic honors at Libbey High School where she tackled subjects like Chinese (dialect: Cantonese) and was also a member of the prestigious Honor Society throughout her school career.

On June 10th,1965 Jackie graduated from Libbey High School and in 1996 she attended The University of Toledo, where she obtained the following certificates; Managing Conflict; Performance Appraisal; Employment Law for Human Service Agencies; Supervision & Cultural Sensitivity; Employment Development; Employment Processes and Job Coaching. Jackie took her academics very seriously and knew in order for her to be successful, she had to be present. She only missed one day in the entirety of her school career, and that was to attend her baby brother, Gregory's, funeral. That's dedication!

Jackie loved foods from different cultures, and liked to try different things. She was also an avid reader. She liked to increase her knowledge on various subjects; such as spiritual growth, culture, politics and education, just to name a few. Jackie was full of life. She was a fantastic bowler, and was awarded numerous trophies for the bowling competitions she won. Her passion, however, was to help people from all walks of life! She was very nurturing, giving, empathic, sympathetic and considerate of other people's feelings. Everyone that came in contact with Jackie was drawn to her. All that befriended her, knew her as mother, which is how she got the nickname "Momma Jackie."

Jackie and her siblings were taught about their Christian faith by their parents, Clarence and Wardine Spearman, at a young age. She loved worship music, the preaching and teaching of the Word of God. Jackie, as a young adult made a decision to receive and follow the Lord Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her work at Morning Star Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Cornelius Byers, was the beginning of her ever growing relationship with Christ. After the passing of Rev. Byers, she attended Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Talmadge J. Thomas, Senior Pastor. Jackie fell in love with the Pastor and people at the City of Zion, so she decided to become a permanent member, and served as the Administrative Assistant for several years. During her professional career Jackie worked at the United States Post Office, and The East Center (Unison Behavior Health), a mental health facility.

Jackie bore two wonderful daughters, Timika N. Luckett (Sharmyra Luckett, Nijah Luckett, and Emmanuel Coleman) and Christina J. Luckett (Nyomi Bell and Isaac Luckett) and raised another daughter Debbie Cosper (Sheena Cosper, Jerina Underwood, Jana Cosper and Brandon Underwood). Jackie leaves to mourn her death: Evelyn N. Heard, LaVoughn Thomas (Don Thomas), Clarence Spearman, Constance Spearman, Brenda D. Spearman-Walton, Geizle A. Hall (Glen Hall), Keith E. Spearman, Robert A. Spearman, Roy McElya (father of Timika & Deborah), Melvin Johnson (father of Christina Luckett), and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Preceding Jackie in death are: her parents, Clarence and Wardine Spearman, and brothers: Gregory A. Spearman, and Ozzie Spearman.
