Jack James O'Rourke Jr.

November 18, 1942 — December 24, 2024

Toledo, Ohio

Jack James O'Rourke Jr., age 82, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 24, 2024, at Heritage Village in Waterville. Jack was born November 18, 1942, in Toledo, to the late Jack and Wilma (McCort) O'Rourke.

A proud graduate of the Ohio School for the Deaf, Jack was recently honored with induction into their football hall of fame, a testament to the indomitable spirit and passion he carried throughout his life. His education laid the foundation for a journey characterized by resilience and strength, qualities he instilled in those lucky enough to know him.

Jack worked at Tasty Bread for 25 years as a line worker and then he dedicated more than 30 years of his life at the post office as a sorter.

Known affectionately as Grandpa Jack to many, his extended family was vast and vibrant. Yet, it was not merely the bonds of blood that defined him; it was his ability to forge meaningful connections with those around him. Jack's home was a haven filled with laughter, where stories were shared over games of poker and moments of friendly competition echoed in the air during bowling nights. He was always up for a thrilling race, whether watching NASCAR from the comfort of his favorite chair or taking to the road himself, enjoying the freedom of travel as he visited family near and far.

Jack had a lifelong fascination with nature, particularly with the majestic bald eagles that soared above. Their grace inspired him, much like the grace he showed in his interactions with others. A dedicated member of the Toledo Deaf Club, he found joy in participating with fellow members, fostering a sense of community that he cherished deeply.

As we remember Jack, we honor the legacy of a man who was as generous in spirit as he was in action. He leaves behind memories woven from threads of love, laughter, and togetherness, a true testament to a life well-lived. Although he may no longer walk among us, Grandpa Jack will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us with the lessons he taught and the love he shared.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving sons, Jay (Amy) O’Rourke III, John (Karen) O’Rourke, and Jesse (Celeina) O’Rourke; grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Mele, Natalie (Brandon) Dudley, Jacob (Maddie) O’Rourke, Devin O’Rourke, Jasmine Gallagher, Xander O’Rourke, Lauren O’Rourke, and Brandon Todd; sisters, Peggy O’Rourke and Sue (Larry) Wadsworth; niece and nephews, Lori (Gary), Mike (Gina), and Jeff (Kathy); and many beloved extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Mary O’Rourke.
