Isabel H. Longoria

Isabel H. "Chavela" Longoria, age 88, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at home surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 14, 1934 to Santiago and Maria (Vallejo) Hernandez in San Antonio, Texas. While growing up, she lived and played in the San Jose Mission where she became very strong in her faith and a devout Catholic. In 1956 Isabel's family moved to North Toledo seeking better opportunities for their family being one of the first Hispanic families in that area. She was an excellent cook, especially of her tortillas and tamales. Isabel had a love of animals, mainly cats. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening. She was very artistic and was an amazing painter. She often liked traveling back to San Antonio to visit family and friends. Isabel's true passion was her friends and family, but most importantly all of her grandchildren; they were the light of her life. Her smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Espiridion "Pilo" Longoria; son, Albert V. "Big Al" Longoria; daughters-in-law, Diane Longoria, and Karen "Kernal" Longoria; son-in-law, John R. "Jake" Jones; 3 sisters; and 1 brother. Left to cherish Isabel's memory are her loving children, Carolina H. Longoria and Ruben H. Longoria; grandchildren, Albert (Laura) Longoria, Anthony (Adrienne) Longoria, Ruben (Jamie) Longoria, Gabriela Longoria, Sophia (Justin) Smith, Andria (Courtney) Schumacher, John (Juana) Jones Jr., Christopher (Eva) Jones, Angela Jones, and Lisa (Lee) Tierrasnegras; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Anita V. Huizar, of San Antonio, TX; special friends, Ignacio "Nacho" (Rosa) Medina and Juan (Lupe) Aldana; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will begin Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Epiphany of the Lord Parish at St. Stephen Parish, 1880 Genesee St., Toledo, OH 43605 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
