Irene M. LaPlante, 98, of Toledo passed away peacefully Monday, December 7, 2020 at Hospice of NW Ohio. She was born October 9, 1922 to Michael and Stefania Michalski in Toledo. Irene had a beautiful smile that would light up a room. She had a big heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a homemaker and caretaker to her own six children and many other children throughout her years. She will be remembered for her nurturing ways, her spunkiness, her famous homemade chicken noodle soup and peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. She was a matriarch to our family and mother to many. She always put family first and was a faithful member of Saint Charles Borromeo Church.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years, Bernie LaPlante; daughter-in-law, Barb LaPlante; son-in-law Lou Vanco; brothers Vincent, Frank, Roman, Stanley and John Michalski, and sisters, Harriet Celian and Alice Grudzinksi.
She is survived by her loving children, John (Eva) LaPlante, David (Julie) LaPlante, Debbie Vanco, Roseann (Dave) Shepard, Janie (John) Grady and Tony (Pam) LaPlante; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and two brothers Ted (Patsy) and Daniel Michalski.
Irene was one of a kind and will be dearly missed. The family has chosen to have private services due to the coronavirus pandemic but services will be streamed live from Saint Charles Borromeo Church via their Facebook page on Monday, December 14th beginning at 10:00am. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in her memory to Saint Charles Borromeo Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
