Irene Brown

June 11, 1946 — April 28, 2024

Irene Brown, a dedicated Daughter, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. Irene transitioned to her everlasting life with Christ on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Regency Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio with family by her side.

She was the eldest of eight, born to the union of Mary Files-Brown and Horace Brown Sr. on June 11,1946 in Minister City, Mississippi. In earlier years of life she attended Edward Drummond Libbey High School. Post high school she began to travel having lived in Dayton, Illinois and Florida. After returning home she furthered her education and attended Stautzenberger College, Toledo, Ohio.

Later in life, she dedicated herself to taking care of the entire family and was employed at Hickory Farms. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age, becoming a member at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Irene loved reading her Bible and attending Church and when she wasn't able to attend Church physically it never stopped her from praising the Lord and reading her Bible wherever she was. She always believed, hoped and remained deep in her faith. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren always complimenting them, praising them, encouraging them, making them smile or laugh. She did enjoy playing the Ohio Lottery and never hesitated to ask for you to "play a number or two". Irene was known for her feisty yet gentle personality, but quick to let you know "I ain't taking no mess from nobody". Her most epic response when she agreed with something you said was "shoot yea". Above all things her favorite thing to do in the world was to be surrounded by family, always reminding us to "stick together" no matter the circumstances.

Irene was preceded in death by both parents Mary and Horace Brown, brothers: Tommy and Jimmy Brown, loving daughter Kathryn Brown, special Uncle Willie Files, niece Renee McGee Barry and nephew Jerry McGee.

Left to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy are her four children: David, Kimberly, Jamie, and Mary, all of Ohio. Sister, Diane McGee(Clarence), Brothers, Horace Jr, Bobby, Howard(Jackie), and Otis Brown all of Toledo, Ohio. Fourteen Grandchildren, Twenty-Two Great Grandchildren, two Great Great Grandchildren. Best friends Elaine Johnson and Brenda Hanks-King. Favorite cousin Goleatha Files along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a service to immediately follow, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at 831 N Detroit Ave, Toledo, OH 43607.

Irene will be laid to rest at Forest Cemetery.
