Irene A. Jablonski, age 96, left to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve 2015. She was born on August 16, 1919 to the late Stanley and Pauline (Szymanski) Cybulski in Toledo, Ohio. She was also the sister of Walter Cybulski, now deceased.
Irene graduated from Point Place High School, Class of 1937. She worked at Tiedtke's downtown and sold shoes at Sear's. She helped her husband at Leo's Market on Streicher Street. Later she worked for 22 years at General Mills. Irene volunteered at Riverside Hospital for 22 years in the gift shop. She truly enjoyed this and never considered it work.
Irene belonged to St. Hedwig Catholic Church as a child and was baptized there. She received her First Communion at this church, was confirmed and later married her husband in St. Hedwig in 1939. She and Leo were married for 42 years. Irene always said no place felt like "her" church except for St. Hedwig.
Years later, after she moved, Irene joined St. Vincent de Paul Church. She was a member of the 55+ Club for 33 years. Irene loved traveling with her husband, Leon to many parts of the world, including Poland. She and Leo's favorite places to travel to were Hawaii and Puerto Rico. She also loved going on trips with her daughter. Day trips to the casinos were great fun for her, especially since she won often. Irene loved playing cards with her friends and watching over her roses which she cared for with great pride after Leo passed away. To her, however, "family is everything."
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Leon, in 1981 and son-in-law, Ronald Thompson. Left to cherish Irene's memory are her children, James (Sue) Jablonski and Diane Thompson; grandchildren, Mark, Ryan, Col. James Jablonski, M.D. and Laura (Wollenweber); great-grandchildren, Madison, Ross, Tyler, Kendra, Min-Ha, Katie and Nathan. A special place was held in Irene's heart for the Thompson's golden retriever, Lightning.
All services for Irene will be private.
