Ira M. "Pike" Stahl, 83, of Toledo,
went home to be with the Lord
August 11, 2005. He was born March 10, 1922
to Peter Stahl and Lillian Wansor Stahl.
Ira's father nicknamed him "Spike" but over
The years it was shortened to "Pike".
Pike and his younger brothers Ray and Carl
Grew up in depression era Toledo and like
Many of that time, had a daily struggle just to
Put food on the table. In 1941, Pike was thrilled
to be hired by The Willys-Overland Company
making The then princely sum of .60 cents an hour.
In the following year He met and fell in love
with Ruth Carolyn Bowen. They married in
July, 1942 and began 60 years together. Upon
Hearing of the Great Naval victory over Japan
at Midway in WW II Pike enlisted. He was
proud of his service and was a graduate
Of the Naval Air Technical Training Center.
As an Aviation Machinists Mate, He was
Honorably discharged in Dec. 1945.
He returned to Jeep and Worked there for 38
years in Tool and Cutter Grind, retiring in 1979
as supervisor of his Dept. From the
time Pike was a young man he also gained
great skill as a carpenter, supplementing his
Jeep income as a remodeling contractor.
After retiring from Jeep he became a successful
Real estate investor.
Pike always said though that the most
important event of his life occurred in the late
1940's when he gave his life to Jesus Christ.
In 1952 Pike and Ruth were part of a
small team of people that started and
later helped build the Toledo Baptist
Temple. In addition to his carpentry skills,
He served as an usher, a deacon,
And treasurer. The church recently celebrated
it's 53rd anniversary. Above and beyond all these
accomplishments, Pike's compassion for the
poor, and his passion for reaching out to those
without Christ has had a profound impact on
so many people. It is a testimony to Pike
and Ruth's faithfulness that all of their children
and grandchildren look to Jesus as Lord.
Dad, All of us will miss You so much. Your kindness,
your sense of Humor, your generosity, and the love you gave.
But even so, we rejoice that you are finally home
with the Lord and reunited with Mom. We are eternally
Grateful.
Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful
Over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:
Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matthew 25:23
