"Sonny" Ila Williams
"Sonny" Ila Williams, age 69, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital. He was born May 15, 1938 to Ila and Hildry (Withers) Williams, Sr. in Woodsen, Arkansas. Ila was a Retired U.S. Navy Veteran, serving his country proudly for 20 years. He was also a lifelong member of the Lansing Elks. After retiring from the Meijer Distribution Center in Newport, MI in 2003 he soon realized how much he missed the friends he had made and that sitting out of retirement was not for him. Returning to work at the Manhattan-Stickney Riteaid, he was quickly endeared to all, both customers and employees alike who lovingly supported him throughout his illness. He also enjoyed nothing more than his Collingwood-Secor McDonalds crew who he shared time, gossip and friendship with each morning.
In addition to his parents, Ila was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Avis B. (Ulrich) Williams; sisters, Izealia M. Thompson; Lareuse Townsend; Bobbie J. Sellers; Hildry M. Williams and Damita Walker; sons, Derrick (Ruth) Londell Williams and Ila (Katie) Williams, III; daughter, Nenita Reed-Williams; step-children, Jeremy and Meleza Ulrich; Ernest; Danny and Brian Robinson.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 5-6:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Lansing, Michigan.
