Howard Delph

Howard Delph passed away in his home on January 13, 2011. Son of Carl and Jessie (Nafus). Loving husband to Gail and devoted father of Deborah (Dana), Doyle (Debra), Dodd (Janis), and Darden (Ben Blake). Adored grandfather of Sklyer, Darcy, Bailey, Bevin, Dorian, Bryce, Abigail, and Daris. Brother of Wilma (Whalen), Judy (Kiser), and brother in-law to Paula (Rice). Godfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Howard was a retired Washington Local School employee where he worked for thirty-three years. His last position there was as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. He attended Whitmer High School where he played football and was on the first wrestling team. He was proud to be a Whitmer Panther and was a huge supporter of Whitmer athletics and athletics in general. He coached football, basketball and wrestling and was a football official for 35 years.

Howard was active in his church and community. He served on church council, taught Sunday School and maintained the facility at The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. He was a Boy Scout Troop leader for troop 156. As an avid outdoors man, he loved to hunt, fish, trap, golf, garden and metal detect. He was also a consummate "handyman" using his numerous skills to assisting anyone needing help. He left a distinctive "HD" emblem in all his cement work. Howard especially loved doing volunteer labor at Camp Luther, a family camp located in Conneaut, Ohio. Not only did he spend endless hours maintaining the camp, he enjoyed camping there and sharing indescribably amazing times with friends and family.

Howard passed on his love of athletics, the outdoors, and people to his children, grandchildren and all he met. His humble, gentle, caring ways and big teddy bear hugs will be missed by many.

The family will receive visitors in the lounge at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 2820 West Alexis Road, Toledo, OH 43613-2049 on Friday, January 21 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral will be held at the church on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park.

The family extends a gracious thank you for everyone's abundant love and support. A special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, neighbors, friends, and all who supported Team Howie.
