Howard Burkert, Jr passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 1st, 2022. Howard was born February 4, 1972, to Howard Sr and Darlene (Brown) Burkert. Howard graduated from Anthony Wayne High School, The University of Toledo, and Heidelberg University. Howard was employed for over 20 years by the University of Toledo. Howard married Sherri (Eyre) and they recently celebrated 17 years together. Howard was an exceptional "girl dad" to their daughter, Katie.
Howard looked forward to Fall, when he would spend weekends watching football- especially University of Michigan and the Denver Broncos. While both teams had their struggles, he remained a loyal fan his entire life. Loyalty was important to Howard- and he was loyal not only to his family but also to his friends. He had several friends he thought of more as brothers than just friends, among them was his closest friend, Tom Kronmann. Howard had a love for nature, and he could often be found hunting for Morel mushrooms in the Spring or getting ready for his annual fishing trip in Canada every Summer. Some of his greatest memories were times he went traveling with his dad to Alaska to photograph bears and eagles.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, Howard Sr., and brother Billy. Howard is survived by his mother, Darlene, wife Sherri, daughter Katie, sister by choice Julie (Rich Zablocki) biological sister, Virginia (Frank) Ulch and multiple aunts and cousins. Also missing him are his constant canine companions Claire, Susie, and Pip.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 30th from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Monclova Community Center (8115 Monclova Rd, Monclova, OH 43542). In lieu of flowers, a fund is being set up for Katies education at Citizens Bank.
Take the time to tell the ones you love how much they mean to you and hug them extra tight. You never know when the last "goodbye" will be.
