Hillman H. Crawford, Sr.

Hillman Holmes "Tom" Crawford, Sr. of Toledo, passed away Friday 17, 2020. He was born to the late William and Eileen Crawford, Jan. 21, 1949, in Topeka, KS. Tom graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in 1967. He fell in love and married Daisey M. Brauer in July of 1968, and they lived together in Swanton, Toledo and back to his home town of Monclova for about 16 years raising a family before moving to Holland/Toledo.

Tom enjoyed working on vehicles, after his father taught him the craft. Throughout his adulthood, Tom passed that knowledge on to his eldest son, Dennis and many of his nephews. Tom found himself working at Spud's Junk Yard on Crissey Rd. and Stengle Auto Sales on Conant for over 20 years, passing on his vast mechanical knowledge to many co-workers and friends. All the while working and fixing cars at home for family and friends.

Tom's mother passed on to him an enjoyment of cooking and baking. For many years he made his own home made salsa, using ingredients from his own garden. Not many could handle the HOT,HOT and stayed with the medium salsa. He made homemade pizza many times, inviting the guys over to watch sports in the garage.

Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Daisey; their three children, Dennis Crawford of Toledo, Hillman Crawford, Jr. of Sylvania, and Starla (Steve) Hartlerode of Holland. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Autumn (Forrest), Brittany, Sandra and Courtnee. Tom is also survived by his siblings, Bill, Mike, Theresa and Chris. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Eileen Crawford and sister, Lyn Crawford.

Tom will be cremated and laid to rest at Monclova Cemetery with his father. A memorial will be held at a later time.
