Hilda M. Atherton

Hilda M. Atherton, age 87, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully Friday, April 7, 2017 at home surrounded by loving family. She was born on October 7, 1929 to Joseph and Amelia (Korth) Bexten in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Hilda was a longtime member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking and playing cards. Hilda loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Atherton; daughter, Marcia Atherton; sister, Betty Knisel; and brother, Leo Bexten. Hilda is survived by her loving children, Herbert (Linda) Atherton, James (Diane) Atherton, Beth (Patrick) Bensch and John (Elisa) Atherton; grandchildren, Brad (Lori), Alda, Jenni (Levi), Brendan, Kaycie, Jacob, Chelsea, Heather (Tony), Jarret, Hannah and Heidi; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Prielipp and Doris (Roger) Sankowski; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Bexten.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 8307 Memorial Hwy., Ottawa Lake, MI, 49267 with visitation one hour prior in church.
