Herbert W. Jones, age 88, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012. He was born on August 1, 1923 in Canada. Herbert was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a Buffalo Soldier, just being honored 3 months ago and inducted into the Library of Congress. He was employed in environmental services with MCO for 20 years before retiring. Herbert loved football, especially the Michigan Wolverines. He was a longtime member of Grace Apostolic Church and loved nothing more than serving the Lord. Herbert also loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Keith McClelland. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Jones; son, Gregory (Althea) McClelland; daughter, Peggy McClelland; grandchildren, Charles (Kristin), Brian (Melody), Michael (Tanesha), Ericka (Ricky) and Whitley; 9 great-grandchildren; special friend and Pastor, Katherine White; and many other relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 10 – 11:00 a.m. at the Church of New Beginnings, 4640 S. Detroit Ave., Toledo with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at church. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery. The Newcomer Funeral Home (419-473-0300) assisted the family with arrangements.
