Herbert J. Lane

Herb Lane, 85 years of Maumee, Ohio, died January 14, 2014 at ProMedica Hospice Residence after a long illness. He was born on December 26, 1928 in Petersburg, Michigan to Jerry and Ione (Welsh) Lane. In his youth Herb tried many different jobs and found his greatest ability and joy in the automobile repair field. He was employed at Rittenhouse Motors for more than 27 years, including many years as their service manager. For several of those years he was also president of the Service Managers Society of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

After retiring from Rittenhouse Motors, Herb was employed at the Ford Stamping Plant in Maumee for more than 17 years in the industrial truck repair department. Herb retired January 1, 1991 and off the Lane's went to Fort Myers, Florida for the winter months. He realized his dream of spending 6 months in Florida and the summer months traveling and in Ohio for 21 years. Herb enjoyed penny poker games with his friends in Florida and being the fry cook for the many events at the resort.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Lou; sons, Robert (Joyce) of Toledo and Ronald (Theresa) of Cape Coral, Florida; grandchildren, Aaron, Brent and Shannon; seven great-grandchildren; brother, John (Sharon) of Florida and sister-in-law, Ardella Lane of Petersburg, Michigan. Herb was preceded in death by his son, Russell, parents, sisters, Mary and Kathryn and brother, Bruce.

At Herb's request there will be no visitation or services. There will be a gathering of friends and family for a celebration of Herb's life, Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Waterside Clubhouse, 7062 Longwater Drive, Maumee, Ohio 43537.
