Herbert Junior DeRose, age 80, of Toledo, passed away December 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by family members.
Herb was born June 3, 1935 in Toledo to Herbert and Ruth (Kaser) DeRose. Herb was a 1954 graduate of Whitmer High School and excelled in gymnastics. Herb met his wife, Marilyn McCabe in 1951 and they were married for 61 years. He was co-owner of DRK Construction with his partner Gary Krieger for more than 25 years and then self employed until 2005. Herb enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors. He was a hotrod enthusiast and enjoyed building cars. He also won trophies for his cars at several auto shows. After selling his hotrods, he started building bikes with motors. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix and if there wasn't a part, he made one. Herb was always willing to help out others when needed.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, sister in law, Shirley Brown, and his cat, Topper. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Berneice DeRose, daughter, Darlene Johnson, grandchildren, Jeremy (Kathy) Johnson and Cassie (Steve) Mynihan, great grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Nolan, Finlay, and Gabriella, sisters, Carol Ann Abbott and Sharon Kurtz, brother in law, John (Jennie) McCabe, many nieces and nephews, and close friends.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 12-noon until 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services following at 5:00 pm. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to ProMedica Ebeid Hospice in Herb's memory.
