Henry "Hank" Szafarek, age 82, of Sylvania Twp., passed away Christmas afternoon at the Toledo Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He raised two sons as a single dad starting in 1955 while working at Willys Overland, retiring in 1982 after 39 years. In 1964, Hank, with the help of his two sons, Jim and Steve, built a new home in Petersburg, MI. He loved working in his yard, giving grandchildren rides in a handmade cart that he pulled behind his lawnmower, which they fondly remember to this day. He loved his cars, especially convertibles. He enjoyed listening to classical music, probably based in part by his violin playing in the Devilbiss High School orchestra. Hank was also known for his love of all sports.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife Goldie May, his 2nd wife, Kathryn and brother Edward Szafarek. Hank is survived by his loving sons: James (Karen J.) and Steve (Karen) Szafarek; grandchildren: Kristy (Joel) LaRocca, Holly Szafarek, Craig (Georgi Carlton) Underwood and Jennifer (Michael) Drummer; great-grandchildren: Grace, Kayla, Lexus, Brandon, Alex and Kiona.
