On August 1, 2012 at age 94, Helen Louise Reed Webster reached the end of a long, productive and fulfilling life.
Helen Louise Reed was born in Morton, Indiana on August 4, 1917, to Opal Agnes and Lawrence Robert Reed. She spent her childhood in several towns in Indiana. In 1935 she graduated from Ladoga High School, followed by the Central Business College in Indianapolis. She was employed by General Electric Appliance Co. in Indianapolis. She met and married Myron Budd Webster in 1940. They moved from Ladoga, Indiana to Indianapolis where she lived while Budd was deployed to Persia (Iran) until 1945.
When Budd returned to Indianapolis, Helen gave birth to three children: Dennis, Nancy, and Cynthia. The family lived in Indianapolis until Budd was transferred to Toledo, Ohio in 1961. In Toledo, Helen worked as an office manager for Shelton Heating and Cooling until her retirement.
Helen was a wonderful cook – her grape pie, southern-style green beans, and chicken and dumplings were masterpieces – but she really excelled at baking cookies. She could always be counted on to bring a delectable plateful to any social occasion.
She also enjoyed needlepoint and gardening. She served as scorekeeper for Budd's bowling team and was his constant companion on golf outings. She was a skilled card player, and she and Budd enjoyed many hours of competitive play. She also loved to travel, both to visit family and friends and also to explore new vistas.
Helen is survived by her son, Dennis (Mary Lou), of Ann Arbor, MI, and her daughters, Nancy Veidt of Toledo, who was her loving caregiver, Cynthia Jenkinson of Sterling Heights, MI., two grandchildren, Leslie and Michael Nankervis, four great-grandchildren, Skylar, Morgan, Landon and Ryleigh, one sister, Lois Ronk, one brother, Harold Reed (Laura), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Myron Budd, her parents, her sister, Edith and her brother, Robert (Bob).
Helen will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive guests Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Interment will be in Brick Chapel, Indiana Monday, August 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
