Helen M. Vrooman, age 84 passed away at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Residence. Helen was born in Spokane, Washington to Arthur F. and Hazel B. (Plackett) Leiter on June 21, 1921. Helen was a long time resident of West Toledo before moving to Aspen Grove. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but did work for a period of time at the Lucas County Home and the Electric Autolite. She was a member of A.S.F.M.E and Local 12 UAW unions. In her younger years she liked to go fishing and enjoyed crocheting and traveling through the Western states with Dad. In her later years Mom and Dad spent time with their friends at McDonalds. Helen was preceded in death by her Parents along with her brothers Arthur, Charles, LeRoy Leiter, sister Eva May Wright and grandson Robert Lawrence Vrooman.
Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years Robert Len Vrooman, sons Robert (Cathy) Vrooman, Lawrence (Carolyn) Vrooman, Her grandchildren, Raymond Vrooman, Angie (Todd) Baumgartner, David Vrooman, Amy (Jason) Spang and Susan Vrooman. She has four great grandchildren.
Helen also leaves behind her sister in law, Marietta Leiter, along with long time friends Louise Williams and Betty Coubillion. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, December 17, 2005 in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Bruce Snyder of Emmanuel Baptist Church will be officiating.
Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
The family request that any contributions be directed to the Emmanuel Baptist Christian Schools or Heartland Hospice.
The family wants to thank the staff at Aspen Grove and Heartland Hospice for the care given to Mom.
